On Bamboo was a Master Class workshop held at Lae Technical University in Papua New Guinea. Christina Tubman was among 10 international design academics and professionals invited to lead groups of students in a 1 week design & build workshop using Bamboo.
Design Scope: 1 week design & build workshop
The Bamboo was harvested from a local farm and we had limited access to power tools. Our brief was to engage the students and get them thinking about ways of designing with this readily available yet often overlooked material.
As the only group leader with a background in Interior Architecture, Christina sought to encourage the students to experiment with the material as a finish. Using traditional techniques such as weaving in combination with newer materials such as concrete, we constructed a 3-dimensional Mondrian inspired pavilion.
